Random thought. Mab is played by Miranda Richardson. She is really, really, pretty, but do you think you would have liked the character as much if she had been hideous? Tbh I honestly dont think I would, which probably makes me a superficial bitch. I dont just like her cos she looks pretty though.

Um… I don’t suppose you mean hideous as compared to what she actually looks like, which would translate into plain looking, but hideous as in freakishly horribly excruciatingly ugly. Well… If that were the case… She would probably still be my favourite character in the whole movie, because I love her ideals, her determination, her devotion towards her fairy world etc – all things that have nothing to do with appearance; and if those things are intact, then yeah, I would still love her. ** One thing would change, though: she would not be my ultimate ideal of beauty.

Awww, yay you replied Yeah I was heading in the freakishly horribly excruciatingly ugly direction as you put it lol. I love the character to bits but think if that were the case I might edge more towards Morgan. Like I also love her ideals, determination, and devotion and it may seem terrible but I have more of a liking for her because of her looks. Perhaps it's my Gothic fancination I love to watch beauty intertwine with horror and tragedy. Like in Sleepy Hollow with LVT. I'd still adore her to but I dont think as much. One thing would change, though: she would not be my ultimate ideal of beauty. Ditto, ditto!

yes I would still like her, since I admire her cunning, her patients, the boldness to stand up and makes sure her people will be safe. That she does not give up even though the odds are extremely against her. her just pure awesomeness. She is so much better than shiney puddles who just glides around giving bleak Confucius advice and throwing swords at people.

Nope just normal since I believe there are allot of people who think like you but doubt that they would say what you did so props to you. Looks are in right now, and most people will judge anybody differently depending on their physic, though few will say that outright ; ). Nobody likes being biased.

Awwww thanks I feel a bit better now ;D, well in contrary to my topic anyway she is stunning so it's not an issue but something to natter about I suppose so but I've noticed within everyone I like I can see nothing but beauty with them. Im not sure if they're all just pretty or if this is is where I come particularly biased xx

I mean, it's not because she's pretty that Mab is awesome. But I swear, I wouldn't like Helena as much either if it wasn't for her striking looks. I'd probably still like her, just not as much. It's part of who they are, but not all that they are.

I think the look of the character is certainly something that attracted me to her in the first place- that and the voice. Saying that, I like a lot of characters/actors, etc. without them being good looking. Mab would still be clever, and powerful and other worldly, so yeah, I think I would still enjoy the character very much, and she'd probably still be one of my favourites from the film. But perhaps she wouldn't have made quite the same lasting impression on me... who knows?...

I think the look of the character is certainly something that attracted me to her in the first place- that and the voice. That voice definitley as I've said before I could listen to her read the dictionary in that rasping voice. Saying that, I like a lot of characters/actors, etc. without them being good looking.See I dunno if I do? Everyone I like I always look for the most beautiful parts of them and focus on that. So maybe they aren't all pretty but I think they are anyway :L Mab would still be clever, and powerful and other worldly, so yeah, I think I would still enjoy the character very much, and she'd probably still be one of my favourites from the film.Yes she would still be clever just not clever enough to stay alive...ok that was too mean yes she is a smart woman though very cunning, very powerful very other worldly. But I put the other worldly part down to her voice and looks. When she's dressed in her warrior Queen out fit I think she looks so alienly beautiful although thats not my top favourite outfit. But I guess this down to me being more shallow or somethin lol. But perhaps she wouldn't have made quite the same lasting impression on me... who knows?...Yeah well I think I'd have liked her if she were not the beautiful Miranda but I wouldn't be besotted if you like :L. Plus I think making Miranda Mab made the character, grrr I dont know how to say what Im trying too. I feel like if Roseanne had've played her the character wouldn't have been as deep. Like she would have been more like Helena Bonham Carter's Iracebeth.

I think the comment about Roseanne being meant to play Mab was a joke on the part of Martin Short, having seen the interview where he mentions it, but yes, I agree with you, I think in many ways Miranda made the character, both in looks and in acting. I think the voice was, at least partially, her idea, too, though I'd have to look through interviews and stuff again to remember... so, yeah, without Miranda, we wouldn't have the voice! Thinking about it, actually, this trailer HERE has a clip of Mab's line, at about 0:16 "I am going to create a leader who will bring the people back to us and the Old Ways", spoken in normal voice, which is odd XD

lol Mab with human voice.. lovely - never noticed that before...
As for the character question.
Do we love Mab for her character or her looks?
... character I'd say.... and tragic storyline
Would we have loved Mab, if she would have been played be somebody else?
.... hardly.... there are very few who would have been able to emanate the same complexity as necessary
What makes the character so special in the end?
.... Mirandas presence and charisma on stage ...
Is Miranda the prettiest, sexiest and hottest Mab ever?
... well Yes of course.... what a question ;-)

OK, right, it’s been 84 years, whatever, hi! I think in many ways Miranda made the character, both in looks and in acting. I think the voice was, at least partially, her idea, too, though I'd have to look through interviews and stuff again to remember... so, yeah, without Miranda, we wouldn't have the voice! Thinking about it, actually, this trailer HERE has a clip of Mab's line, at about 0:16 "I am going to create a leader who will bring the people back to us and the Old Ways", spoken in normal voice, which is odd XD I’ve got this one. I think it’s from the Shooting Script book (I cannot think of any other source I would’ve got this info from). The voice is 100% Miranda. Steve Barron the director was talking about how, when he started exploring the characters with the actors, he sat down with Miranda and asked her, “So how do you want to go about it?” And she said, “I’m going to whisper.” And Steve Barron was like, “You’re going to do what now?” So Miranda said, “I’m going to whisper.” And because it’s Miranda, when she has an idea, the clear answer is “Yas, Queen!” So she whispered and that’s how everything clicked into place and Mab came to be as we all know and love her. Now, the idea (yes, Miranda's idea) was for Mab’s voice to gradually become raspier and lower and darker as the film progresses, to kind of match the trajectory of the character as she descends into a warpath of blood and destruction. That’s probably why the different voice in the trailer (there was already a slight rasp there when she says “I name this child Merlin”). Clearly that got ultimately scrapped, as Mab’s voice is awesome as it is, but that’s why it sounded different at first in the trailer. Speaking of the trailer, could that be the song that Charlotte Church sang and never made it into the film? It’s beautiful! I wish they would release the whole version!
