OK, so the title is possibly a little confusing... Basically, this is partly brought about by wondering what people's mental images of Idath and the Lord of Fire (whether you subscribe to the general fandom character of Loke or otherwise, the novelisation definitely mentions that there is a Lord of Fire) are. I posted my thoughts on the Nimue thread, but I'll go and dig the quotes up in a minute The thought then occured to me that, whilst we see Mab in a "human looking" form, we see the Lady of the Lake looking decidedly unhuman and watery, despite her shape, and the Mountain King even more "elemental" and less human. It's mentioned in the novelisation that some thought that the Last Dragon might have been the Lord of Fire. We know that Mab can change her shape, so presumably the others can, too- do you think they all have human and elemental shapes that they switch between- if the Mountain King, for example, wanted to walk amongst humans, does he have a default human shape that he takes on? Obviously there are no definitive answers to this question, its never really brought up in either film or novelisation, beyond noting that Mab has some animal forms (raven, wolf and owl, I think), but I wondered if anyone else had thought about this?

a giant fucking rock lmao!
then a firey temper isn't necessarily an asset. He may be more easy-going and harder to anger than Mab because he can read what people are feeling which would make him more empathetic towards them. I think he definitely has a temper, he just wouldn't exercise it as frequently as Mab.
I see fire and water being more emotional elements while earth and air are less so. However, fire and air are more active while water and earth less so.
It's mentioned in the novelisation that some thought that the Last Dragon might have been the Lord of Fire. Why did only the Lord of Fire go poof? Maybe there's some legend out there about that particular element disappearing first. This isn't the first story I've read where "fire" disappeared first out of all the elements. It could be just a coincidence, but it makes me wonder if there's a myth somewhere...
if the Mountain King, for example, wanted to walk amongst humans, does he have a default human shape that he takes on? well according to the fic on gaia we're still writing, the latest additions talk all about this. XD Mountain king fell asleep on the hill when disbelief began to happen and became a literal part of his element. He's now pulled himself off the hillside and returned to human form.
I think all the others could have human forms if they wanted, but I'm not sure if there's a reason to. From what we can tell, most of the worship was towards Mab specifically. So she would be in need of a human form in order to interact with humans and give them a form they could relate to and understand.

Re: Lord of Fire- I like to conveniently ignore that particular theory that the book puts forward, mostly because, whilst Merlin's tactics are clever, I don't see the Lord of Fire- if that is indeed him- not changing to a different form or being able to survive. Mind you, I guess he could have escaped offscreen, somehow, when Merlin rode off- maybe Mab went back and helped him out XD Not sure if that was intentional on the writer's behalf, though... Re Mountain King: Oooh, awesome, is there a description of what he looks like? *will have to go and look out the fic again at some point* Makes sense that Mab would be the one most in need of a human form, and would explain why the others look substantially less human, definitely. I wonder what Mab's "elemental form" looks like- or maybe just a voice on the air, like with that scene with Merlin in the estuary.

I wonder what Mab's "elemental form" looks like- or maybe just a voice on the airI very much like the idea of a voice on the air. there a description of what he looks like?yeah he's covered in dirt. lol he's not the most glamorous of the elemental kings. As for the great dragon, I don't think Mab helped him out because we don't hear about any more dragon attacks after that. I don't think the dragon is really the Fire Lord. At best, the dragon might be a tiny fragment of him. It says "perhaps the great dragon was his last earthly manifestation" So it sounds like there is more than one physical manifestation of him in the world and maybe all of these manifestations are non-human. It could be Mab is the most human among any of them and therefore is the most intelligent with actual free will and self-awareness of her own existence. However, it does use the term "Fire Lord" which implies a human-manifestation at some point. These are some of the questions I would love to ask Mab. But even she may not know. He may have just vanished off the map suddenly. The four elemental kings --> landunderhill.angelfire.com/characters.html

Idath's image kills me, I think it's the one image I cant put a finger on I couldn't tell you what image I'd pick for Idath but I could easily tell you what image I dont think suits him. Dyson from the show lost girl about faes. He puts me in mind of Idath in one respect but I'll be damned if I could tell you what it is. I dont think Loke was the dragon as I never considered it, but it's a cool thought all the same. Loke I go on by fics and stuff so in my head he's a less up tight I suppose version of Mab, he's more likely to mess around. And I always automatically imagined him human sitting in a big chair with flames around him I have no idea why I dont imagine him devil like at all though it probably sounds like I do I guess the mountain king has a human form or had a human form or somethin im sure he's more than a big bloody rock. Mab I do imagine to need a human form most of all as for elemental Im inclined to go with the idea of her being a voice or even her like taking the form of like clouds. well according to the fic on gaia we're still writing, the latest additions talk all about this. XDThat fic has a lot to answer for :L I've started getting confused if I read it in your fic or if it actually happened. It could be Mab is the most human among any of them and therefore is the most intelligent with actual free will and self-awareness of her own existence.Mab the most human a sentence I never thought Id read that sentence but yeah it makes sense haha. These are some of the questions I would love to ask Mab. But even she may not know. He may have just vanished off the map suddenly. You could fill a warehouse with things we want to ask Mab.

Mab the most human a sentence I never thought I know I was like @_@ when I wrote it. I suddenly felt like she did understand humans better than I first thought.

OK, I went on photobucket after years of absence, after resetting my password, so that I could upload this Loke photo-manip that I did in the GIMP, and it turns out that I'd actually drawn a little cartoon version of him and the other elemental kings years back o_0 Pretty sure it's based off Tosca's picture (that I still can't find, alas), and I don't think I've posted it up here, but yeah... here ye go Here is the image I was initially going to upload *is not a Littlefinger fangirl at all, noooo, really, ARGH, WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO MEEEE??* Anyway, its not very good, I wanted to make his hair a little more firey, but everything I tried looked crappy (as does the edges of the fire- sorry about that- I was away from the GIMP too long! I may well improve upon this image.

That drawing is superb!
I was watching the film Wake Wood in the cinema a few days ago. The Littlefinger actor played a main character. I was constantly envisioning him as Loke.

Aidan Gillen? Dude, I need to see that. Like, right now.
Argh, I have turned into far too much of a Littlefinger fangirl. I recognise the signs from back in the day with Mab (or "Merlin" in general). I can feel it coming... I'm already getting impatient waiting for the next series. I feel this Loke-image for me may be the result of my fandoms bleeding together in my head XD

lol he is a good actor so that is understandable. I also believe he has something Loke-ish about him. I can recommend Wake Wood. It has the feel of a nice old horror film (well, it is a Hammer film). Odd villagers, strange events, a few yucky bits when you best close your eyes, a graveyard where some digging has to be done... Also Timothy Spall is in it.

Hmmmm... I DO like horror films... and I DO have large swathes of unemployed daytime which needs filling with stuff that isn't just reading cracked.com... I think I may check this film out.

OK, so off topic, but I watched Wake Wood- I enjoyed it ^^ Love a horror film, I do. We just need someone to make photo-manips of Idath and the Mountain King now, and we can totally make a poster for Mab: The Movie
