Slightly earlier than the actual New Year, to prevent myself from forgetting to post this:
As most of us probably know, Merlin was originally aired in 1998, meaning that in 2018 it will be turning 20 years old. As a form of birthday celebrations, please see below for the Merlin Fanwork Challenge 2018! There are 12 prompts, one for each month of the year, and I'll be reposting the latest challenge prompt once per month to signal boost. Hopefully some of our awesome and creative board members will be able to fill out a couple of the challenges by the end of the year All you need to do is create/post fanwork that links to the theme of the prompt.
2018 has now passed, so there are no current prompts - all of the below are still open for entries.
A full list of the prompts can be found at the bottom of this post.
Guidelines
1) There are no rules – We're a small fandom, and most of us are busy with studying, work etc. If you don't have the time or inspiration for all the prompts, that's fine, if you want to submit work late, or even if you get bitten by inspiration for one of the later prompts and want to submit it early, that's fine too.
2) All fanworks accepted – Fanfiction – drabble, one shot or multi part- poetry, fanvids, drawings, photo manipulations etc. are all welcome for the challenge.
3) You don't have to be a regular, or even a member – Challenges are open to all – if you've not posted in a while, or if you're just casually browsing and haven't joined up yet, feel free to use the prompts as inspiration for your own fanwork. If you feel comfortable joining up/posting here, we would love to hear from you.
4) What about Merlin's Apprentice? - In the unlikely event that you are struck by the MA muse, go wild.
5) Where to post our works
This forum! - If you have a proboards account and are signed up to this forum, you can post your fanwork right here in Chambers. Please note that to avoid proboard sanctions against the forum, only non-explicit fanwork should be posted here. If you want to write/draw smut (and I assume that some of us do ) you will need to post it on one of the alternatives below.
Archive of Our Own (or, AO3) – AO3 is a fanwork site that is free to sign up to and allows you to upload fanfiction and fanart. There's no limit on ratings, and you can add tags to your fanwork to make it easier for other users to find. Anything posted here should be tagged with the “Merlin (1998)” category, so that we can find it more easily.
Fanfiction.net – You probably all know this one. Entries here should be entered under the Movies → Merlin category (the “Merlin” in the TV section refers to the later, unconnected BBC show). As far as I'm aware, it is not possible to upload art or fanvids to FF.net as you can to AO3, this is for text-only submissions.
Prompt List
1) Family
2) Women
3) Faith
4) Past and Future AND/OR Unlikely Pairings
5) Men
6) Humanity
7) Magic
8) Life
9) Lies
10) Friends and Enemies
11) Journey
12) Winter
