Well, if Vortigern gets his own thread, then Idath certainly should, methinks!
Right, Idath, Lord of Death, former lover of Queen Mab, keeper of the cauldron of Rebirth- discussion lies here:
I quite like Idath- he doesn't appear much in the books, but even so, there must be one hell of a backstory there, and methinks that intriguingness is part of why I like him so much.
Not to mention, Mab/Idath has to be one of the best ships- other than MM, naturally- in the fandom, again, because of the potential backstory.

Okay. Mab/Idath totally PWNS!
I mean really. Out of all the pairings in the history of forever, that one is best.
You have to admit it.

Admittedly, there is room for so much cool there. And he does still refer to her as "my love" at th beginning of the books- it's only later on, after Mab takes Caliban for Mordred, that he grows colder, and uses her formal title, and that could be because he's angry with her.

Noticed that.
But I really did think it hurt him when she begged to bring Mordred back and he said no. I really think he wanted to help her.
Though I did kinda want a chapter after she disappears and she goes to Anoeth. Almost like Tosca's ficlet but not quite. You know what I mean?
I dunno. I would rahter it end with Mab and Idath then with a possible Merlin/Nimue going on there. . .

Is that the stirrings of a plot bunny I see before me??? Fics are always welcomed, especially if they involve Mab NOT simply fading away into nothingness!
I agree with you about the Mordred incident- I think he would have liked to help her, I think he was upset/angry/whatever by how much she'd changed- hence the ultimatum, and his refusal to bring Mordred back, whilst pointing out its because of her own choices.

Oooooh. I couldn't do it but a fic where Mab FINALLY kills Merlin would be quite awesome.
Yeah. Idath really didn't make the right choice when it came to saving Mordred or not. Maybe he didn't think Mab really was going to die.

Perhaps, or maybe he, like Mab, had finally reached the point where he payed little heed to his emotions, and more to what he saw as his duty? I don't know...

omg, I feel such a biatch right now for not having posted in this thread so far! (I think I just wanted to wait until reading the third book, but since he didn’t get many more scenes there, I figured I might as well ramble a bit.) *goes through posts* Maybe he was colder towards her at the end because he was again returning to his usual emo self? (and now I feel mean. But seriously, it just occurred to me. And it actually makes sense. He doesn’t approve of something she does, so he doesn’t help her anymore and goes all cold. Maybe he didn’t realise that nothing would stop her from fading away in this case. OK, I’ll shut up now DX) I do think he’s a great character (or that he’s got potential), and Tosca’s Air and Darkness fic truly was very beautiful. I couldn't do it but a fic where Mab FINALLY kills Merlin would be quite awesome. I don’t think she could ever kill Merlin, tbh. He’s her creation, her son. Her magic flows through him and I think that deep down she’s always hoped against hope that he would see that and stop fighting against her. He’s the only character (in the movie at least) she ever confessed to love openly, and definitely the only one she ever told that. Even when it was clear that he would not join her, she decided to give him up and let him be happy with Nimue rather than kill him. So perhaps she might let him die at most (under some very special circumstances), but never orchestrate it or do it herself.

You're welcome [/whisper] He seems OK, I just wish he'd been developed more in the book.
