Has anyone seen the new Arthur film? Does it have a Merlin, a Mab?

I haven't seen it yet, as my local cinema isn't showing it Going to keep an eye out for it at the independent cinema in the next few months, but I won't hold my breath, don't think it's the kind of film they normally show. Based on what I've read so far though, I don't think there's going to be a Mab character. According to Wikipedia, someone has been cast as Merlin, but it looks like it's quite a minor role - there's a major character referred to as "The Mage" who is working on Merlin's behalf, apparently. The Lady of the Lake is also listed as appearing, along with Vortigern (who looks to be the main antagonist), Igraine, Uther and Mordred (who is an evil sorceror early on in the timeline apparently, so I would guess we probably won't see a Morgan/ Morgause character). There's also a lot of Arthur's knights kicking about. It looks like they've played pretty fast and loose with the traditional legend, but it wouldn't be the first piece of media to do that. For fans of BBC Merlin, apparently Katie McGrath (Morgana) appears in a small role. If I do actually get to see it in the near future, I shall report back!

There is this academic book I have still to get my hands on: ”Elf Queens and Holy Friars: Fairy Beliefs and the Medieval church” by Richard Firth Green. It is about fairies and their place in religion, be it demons or otherwise. There is a fairy incubi chapter and an anti-christ one. I've always found this relationship incredibly fascinating (heaven, faerie, hell?) + there should be a whole chunk on Merlin's halffairy nature! I want to read this so badly.

Mab gets mentioned in this podcast on fairy queens (around 45 minutes). Something was said on her in recent years being de-demonized. otherworldlyoracle.com/cliodhna-celtic-fairy-goddess/It is fun seeing some life return to the board, I will reply to those fascinating new posts when I have the time. ♡
