You wanted a group-fic, now you suffer the consequence
Something began
It began here, in a forest, where a lost villager had turned to an unidentified mushroom to stave of hunger. He leant against a tree, giggling to himself for reasons that a casual observer wouldn’t like to hazard a guess at. He shouldn’t be taking the advice of a dragonfly, he knew that. But the dragonfly seemed to know what he should be doing, and therefore had an immediate advantage. He felt he should at least listen to the dragonfly, in case he decided that it had said something relevant.
And something that had been seeking for a place to exist turned its attention to the small, isolated incident. It found a way in…
It took three tries to get his feet back onto his legs and under his body. He staggered off in the direction the dragonfly had told him, which was the way home as it so happened. The dragonfly landed on the branch of the tree, and stood up. For the first time, it considered a name. After listening to the sounds all around it, it decided. Mab. And she would be Queen.
I open this fic up for editing. I shall also be doing my own version. Enjoy

It took some months for Mab to adjust to her new physical form. For years, centuries, millenia, she had existed in the air itself, flowing along on the breeze, powerful yet insubstantial. Her brothers and sister, though they too were confined by their natural elements of Earth, Fire and Water, all had forms somewhat more substantial than she, and, although envy was a foreign concept to her, something in her desired to be something more, something that could be seen and heard, and not simply felt. Most other creatures, even those of her power, would have considered what she had just done to be impossible, but then, they did not have her determination.
Even so, despite having achieved the body, the existence that she had longed for, Mab still needed to change. Her new body was fragile, small and thin and so easy to break. Eventually, of course, her magic would ensure that no matter how weak her form might look, it couldn't be simply broken by mortal means, but even then, a shape other than a dragonfly was needed. She considered. The wings of the dragonfly were rather useful, and she saw no reason to be rid of them. The other elemental kings, though they took on a human-like form, always had something other than their inhuman flesh marking them apart. It was perhaps fitting that a Queen of Air and Darkness should have wings. But other than that... In this world of men, Mab thought to herself, perhaps a more human form would be fitting.

But not yet. That, too, would take time. And time was one thing Mab had in abundance; time, and patience. For now, she could spend these months of adjustment flitting glitteringly from wonder to wonder upon her gosammer wings, breathing anew the scents, the sights, the sensations of her world as they slipped through the darkness that made up her tiny dragonfly body.
With one foot in the dawn and another in the night, she tested her new form, tentatively, for mere seconds at first. In the beginning, tiny as she was, she kept to the snarls of hedgerows, hid in shadows cast by the petals of a flower, in the folds of an old leaf curled with the mark of autumn. And occasionally, when that ethereal half-light touched the dewy ground, when the earth was just beginning to shrug off her nightrobe and step out into the sun, when the pale morning mists draped the landscape in some intangible finery - in these moments, she might see a snatch of movement, the shudder of a leaf, the sparkle of a fragile wing, and she would ponder, thoughtfully, whether others existed - others, who had chosen the same shape as she. And, both as dragonfly and as the diminutive new being of limbs and wings, Mab grew bolder.

She grew bolder, in the sense that she had no fear. She darted from branch to branch, no longer hiding in the leaves. She knew she was Queen and she liked it. No one would hurt the Queen.
It wasn't every long after her new demeanor became apparent, that she met another. He was tall, much taller than she. He wore a cloak of darkness and a twisted helm of bones on his head. His hair, to match his eyes, was blazing red. He was handsome and Mab was curious.
She fluttered out to meet him and he stared at her through his helm. He was so much bigger, so much more powerful and she liked that. She liked that he had power.
He lead a team of men, all on horses, all looking at her in that way of odd fascination that the man stared at her. He extended his hand, and she flew over to rest on his palm.

She tilted her head, staring back at his face, half hidden by his helmet. She decided that she liked his eyes, for she had never seen a being with red eyes before. His handsomeness was rugged, and it pleased her.
Her eyes left his, and she let her gaze glide over to the men in his company, but didn't leave the palm of his hand. She knew he'd be able to crush her, but was sure the thought never even passed his mind. To her, he was not a danger.
She laughed inaudibly, and suddenly disappeared. The man would have never confessed to it, but she actually had startled him. How strange...he had never seen anything like her before, even if he, in his line of work, had seen about everything there was to see. Apparently, he was unable to keep his surprise from showing on his face, since the others all started to laugh. But Idath didn't care. She had left a few strange sparkles on his hand, and for a second, it was all that mattered to him.

Okay, I am replying to my own post...how sad is that?! And yes, by that, I am talking to you guys!
It wasn't as if he'd be actively looking for her, but after this particular incident, thoughts of the tiny fairy kept crossing his mind every now and then. She even haunted his dreams, which was strange enough considering the fact Idath never really slept. Once, he even went back to the forest clearing where he had first seen her...but nothing. No trace of her was left. The sparkles on his hand had disappeared, too.
He felt a strange form of nostalgia...even if it was for something he had never known, but the fearless expression on her face wasn't leaving him. Time passed, and just as he had abandoned all hope to ever see her again, he found her. Winter held the land in it's icy grip, snow storms were raging, large white flakes falling from the skies. The mortals were celebrating midwinter, the days were getting longer, even if on this particular day, the cold season was at it's peak. The immortals mingled with men, for today, it was save to do so. The humans felt that there was something different about them, but weren't able to put it down in words. It was better that way.
She sat in between other women, one blonde, one red haired, talking to them and smiling softly. He immediately knew it was her, there was no way she could possibly hide her identity, even if she was in a much more human form now. Her hair, her skin, the way her throat glowed when she laughed - it just had to be her. He watched her all evening, watched as she played with the lace of her black dress, watched as she sipped wine from a silver goblet. After a while, she excused herself and got up. He knew he just had to follow her.
It took a while to find her, since she had simply disappeared from his view, but there she was, standing on a balcony staring out into the blue night. Snowflakes caught in her hair. She had to be freezing, but it didn't seem to overly bother her. Her back was facing him, so he decided to announce himself. "Good evening." he said, but she didn't turn around. Hadn't she heard him? Slowly, almost careful not to startle her, he walked to her side, letting his gaze wander over the snow covered land. He didn't dare to look at her. "This is beautiful." she suddenly said after what had seemed like an eternity of silence. She finally turned to look at him, and a warm shiver ran down his spine. It was her, no doubt about that. "You are the fairy." it wasn't a question. She simply nodded. "Do you know who I am?" he asked, curious what her answer was going to be. Again, she just nodded.
They stood like that for another eternity, looking at each other. "And you are not afraid?" This time, she shook her head, and it angered Idath. Didn't she understand? How could she just stand there, looking at him, not even flinching when meeting the gaze of his red eyes. "But..." he started, but she didn't allow him to continue. "There is nothing you could do to hurt me." She answered, shrugging, and in this very moment, it was true. A few hundred years later, her opinion on this matter would be a different one. But this wasn't important now. For his part, her calmness served only to egg him on further. Her lack of fear was disarming! He had never met a being, mortal or immortal, that stood so close to him without even shivering. Maybe it was the simple need to prove her wrong, maybe it was the need to wipe the small but smug smile from her face, but he bent down and kissed her lips without warning, holding her arms tightly so she couldn't escape. To his utter surprise, she kissed him back, and he forgot time, space and the whole world itself. And in that moment, as they stood in the cold, kissing, snow flakes falling down onto them soundlessly, he knew she was right. There was nothing he could do to hurt her.
Okay, could somebody call me an ambulance now?

Just a heads up, I moved this over from the "General Art" forum, as it seemed more appropriate for it to be here, in case anyone hadn't read this and wanted to continue it
