I was just randomly going about you tube again and I started watching a witches video. Anyway to cut a long story short one of th images said: Morgan Le Fay Priestess of avalon, Witch and keeper of the old ways. Does anyone know if this was referring to Morgan as in Merlin Morgan. No pics of her came up it was another woman. I am sooo confused right now. www.youtube.com/watch?v=wthI_qP_YZg&feature=rec-HM-r2That's the link now go to 1:06 please.

*cracks knuckles*
Okay, so, they are indeed referring to Morgan le Fey of the Merlin legend. While the movie was, of course, closely based on the stories, there are a vast number of variations of the tale of Arthur and the knights of the round table. Same Morgan, though she is often seen as a good character, or bad, and as a fairy or a witch. Often perceived as the sister/mother of Merlin or Arthur, and sometimes takes the role of Morgause or Mab as the villain. So yes, that's our Morgan, and in many versions of Merlin she is a sorceress, if my memory serves me correctly.

*Cringes at knuckle cracking* Ok thanx. The film Merlin is the only Merlin thing I've ever seen apart from the small appearance in the show Charmed. Which unfortunately had no Morgan or Mab...or Merlin come to think of it. Jeeeeesh I am so confused now though I was so set on the image of Morgan being a mortal. I definitly don't think Mab should get confused with Morgan they have competely different goals. I'm only going by the film so maybe not. They do have some similarities but the characters are better as seperate people as they are both great. Which is kind of gutting when your fave character kills your second fave.

Well, I don't think the versions that have Morgan as a sorceress really are in danger of confusing her with Mab, who is pretty much an interpretation that this movie is cluttering together out of different things, namely the legend that Merlin was the Devil's son (or at least the son of something similar to the Devil. Christian interpretation says hello.), and cornish Goddess and fairy queen Mab (as can be seen immortalized by Shakespeare).
Anyway, it's not totally uncommon for the same character to fulfill different roles in different versions of the same myth, seeing as these roles' functions are basically the same: namely to offer a heathen antagonist to the "good" Christian side. The special angle of the movie Merlin is, in my opinion, that we get both Mab and Morgan as heathen antagonists who are, interestingly enough, driven by completely different motives, Morgan following the classical drive for power while Mab is fighting for survival, a symbolisation of the struggle of the old religions against Christianity that would probably not have gone over very well during the time that the myth first came into existence.

Pfffffffffft ! I need to read more Merlin stuff or stuff along the lines of Merlin. So would Mab and Morgan ever be found in the same story with power? *Puts dim wit hat on*

You mean would a fairy queen Mab be found in a story where Morgan was a sorceress? I must admit I haven't done a ton of reading on this topic or anything but my guess would be no. If we have a sorceress-Morgan, the old, magical, heathen side of the battle is already represented and we won't need another one. Remember, it's mostly about what function the character fulfills in the scheme of the story.

Yup it's just when I was re-reading the posts a thought ran across my mind what Mab would have done if Morgan had got power later on in the story. Oh well I can always dream.

I have read one book with a Morgan as the fairy and a Morgause as the witch, ALONG with Mordred as Morgause's son... but yeah.
