Hahaha, in fairness, it took me several years to realise it myself XD I think I started using this username because it was the name of a character in a video game I was playing a lot of at the time, and then I just kept using it because I was used to it. So, I wasn't aware of the anime at the time, but I keep meaning to watch it...

Himiko, what video game was it? Nyssa, "Wishing i was just a storybook character... every day" er that would be dangerous. You do know that stories can not be about happiness alone or no one would read them. Bad things have to happen to the characters for the story to be interesting so please do not become a storybook character. Here it is: Mabforever's STORY . I am in a lazy mood so I just copied the conversation. “It is strange that after Mab's fading Merlin did not go back to the cave to try to release Nimue." Afterthought: Merlin did say he never saw the cave again, so he will have looked. Anyway "He still had some magic left in him and he could have guessed Mab's magic would stop working ” “That’s because he was hoping if he ran fast enough she wouldn’t be able to find him he needed time to be sad about Mab.” “I do think he then saw what Mab meant to him.” “Yes he hated Nimue. dont blame him she was whiney. Mab didn’t really die either. See Merlin had knocked her up with his kid so that she'd not be forgotten and they needed to get rid of Nimue so they tricked her into the cave then made everyone think Mab was dead so they could raise the kid without threat. And then Merlin was in the village getting people to remember the mother of his child. Frik was there and told him about Nimue and he was like oh shit. Then he went to meet her and they kissed then they went into the hut where Mab had appeared and they like cut her heart out and ate it. ” “oh I don't blame him, just wish he had dumped her. that story!!! *clapping her hands* yaaay Nimue is finally dead. I want this story put in the film.” “Well he was going to totally dump her but Mab told him to kill her because she didn’t want any psycho ex girlfriend drama but Merlin didn’t have the bottle for it. What a woose right. lol it's a good story because the ending is to die for. “ haha awesome” “So in the end Mab had to rip her heart out herself. lol the Mabforever rated version.” “^^ I am hungry again, I want stew” “lol Nimue's heart?” “lol no, Nimue might be catchy I do not want to run that risk.” “lmao! I will tell her you said that” “yes do tell Nimue ” “i will and she shall throw a temper tantrum ” “lol if she is capable of that. I think she'd have a heartattack instead” “ awww mmmm that could make it easier for Mab to cut out” “true ” Finally, I have a Merlin-related discussion question: What if Mab had died when she created Merlin and begged her sister to take care of Merlin? What would the Lady have done, knowing Merlin was supposed to save the Old Ways?

Hmm, I think that depends a goodly amount on what the Lady of the Lake's motivations are during the film. For example, if she really believes that she is doing the right thing by guiding Merlin away from the Old Ways, and letting the Old Ways pass, she might have him brought up as Ambrosia did. If her actions were out of a fondness for Merlin, perhaps she would have let him grow up and find his own path. If she was motivated by some sort of spite/ dislike toward Mab, likely she would either guide him away from the Old Ways, or abandon him entirely (after all, if we're taking Merlin's Apprentice as canon, she pretty much did that with Jack... of course, if Jack was my offspring, I would probably do the same...)
So, yeah... I think really we'd need to know more about the Lady's motivation to have a clearer idea, and even in the novels, we don't really see anything from her point of view- any scenes with her in are told from the POV of Merlin or Mab, and so we don't really see what makes her tick.

Further to my last post, I wonder if that scenario would have happened, would Mab have entrusted his care to another of the gods (one of her brothers? Idath?) or perhaps one of her erstwhile/ current followers, to ensure that he grew up in the Old Ways. Her sister, having refused her help already, might not be the immediate choice.

I prefer the Ashleigh version Right well first off Merlin would simply not have been as interesting and we would have all been miffed about Mab or then again wouldnt know of her but thats just the obvious. It's a really interesting question particularly the Merlin side of it. Puddles seemed to have more of a connection with him than Mab if Puddles was working team Mab I wonder if she'd have been able to get him to fight for the old ways. The boring answer is she could have just left him to it.....though if Puddles truly hated Mab she could have came up with some elaborate scheme where she tricked Mab into using up the last of her power creating Merlin with the promise that she'd make Merlin into the champion Mab wanted which would restore Mab only to stab Mab and the back and have the legends mostly forget Mab but not the Lady of the Lake or Merlin All because Puddles was in love with Idath who rejected her for Mab. ....... Yes I live in a world of my own tis what I do for funzies as you were

Yay discussion time Yes we do need more insight on the Lady. Would she still respect her sister despite their differences or not? Find out in Puddles the movie. The truly frightful thing would be Puddles raising Merlin to create Jack. *shudders* "Her sister, having refused her help already, might not be the immediate choice." Very true! I based the scenario on the film. For some reason, an old loving sisterly bond?, Mab did entrust the Lady with her plan of creating a leader for the people. And not her brothers. We motivate this by saying Loke isn't canon and the Mountain King ... Personally first time I saw the film I saw him as part of the Old Ways but not close a relative to Mab. In the book of course this is different. I have to admit I have never been fond of the elementals theory in the book. so yes in my mind it is Mab and Lady: sisters, no other siblings. Hence not much of a choice for Mab. ... Apart from that the MK as a father, he would not be very responsible and I would be expecting him to say "Merlin, I am your father..." Merlin screams and his hand spontaniously falls off. Mab would have to give the child to someone with magic for him to grow to his full potential and preferably someone who already knew what she was up to. That leaves the Lady and Frik. Tough choice on Mab. The traitor or the nitwit? A priestess or other true follower of the Old Ways would have been the perfect choice for Ambrosia's job: raising Merlin until he was old enough to learn magic. "Puddles seemed to have more of a connection with him than Mab if Puddles was working team Mab I wonder if she'd have been able to get him to fight for the old ways." That is good thinking If only Puddles was on the good side, Or if Mab could trick her into it. On Puddles tricking Mab: I trust Mab not to be so stupid she'd fall for that. "All because Puddles was in love with Idath who rejected her for Mab." lol this is becoming canon
