Pan's Labyrinth main character's name is Ophelia and if you're familiar with shakespeare you know that Ophelia is the character that went mad.
Her evil stepfather is a captain of an army during a time of fascism in Spain. Her mother is pregnant at this time with a boy fathered by the stepfather. Ophelia reads many faery books in order to escape the cruel and violent world around her. She starts to hallucinate adventures for herself that follow the stories told in her faery books about a magical princess who must complete certain tasks in order to return home to her magical kingdom.
The film is very dark. Its really about a poor little girl driven to use her fantasies as a shield and an escape. But its also very mysterious because it never truly tells you whether Ophelia is indeed mad and the faeries are nothing more than her imagination or if it is really all happening.
It is a very creepy, but very artistic and beautifully imagined dark faerytale.
I own the french-dubbed version because I prefer to watch it in French since I know that language and find it beautiful. But the original film is in Spanish and the setting takes place in Spain. There is no english-dubbed version, but there are english-subtitles. I was very surprised they never dubbed it in english.

Pan's Labyrinth main character's name is Ophelia and if you're familiar with shakespeare you know that Ophelia is the character that went mad.Nope but I just read something on the news about Ophelia so yeah I knew who she's written by. That sounds so very, very familiar though I have never read it before. The film is very dark. Its really about a poor little girl driven to use her fantasies as a shield and an escape. But its also very mysterious because it never truly tells you whether Ophelia is indeed mad and the faeries are nothing more than her imagination or if it is really all happening.Wtf why does that sound even more familiar I could strongly swear upon de ja vu here yet I've never heard nothing about Pan's Labyrinth before. How odd. It is a very creepy, but very artistic and beautifully imagined dark faerytale.I can imagine by the sound of it I own the french-dubbed version because I prefer to watch it in French since I know that language and find it beautiful. But the original film is in Spanish and the setting takes place in Spain. There is no english-dubbed version, but there are english-subtitles. I was very surprised they never dubbed it in english.Well that just sucks and I do hate films with subs when I went to french class we had to do with Le Chateau De Ma Mere which was a great film but bloody nightmare.

Pan's Labyrinth main character's name is Ophelia and if you're familiar with shakespeare you know that Ophelia is the character that went mad. yeah, several characters went mad. Mabforever and me are Ophelia fans. ok, I shouldn't have said 'never'. Just do NOT watch Pan's Labyrinth without company. I watched it on a bleak autumn day. There was no one else in the house. I was already feeling sad and scared before I started watching the film. I was a sniveling wreck afterwards. I saw the Spanish version with subs.

Sounds depressing and dark Arwen I love your floor and book shelves, your floor looks similar to my grans barr with her it looks like pebbles and also the inside front of her house has this old sort of brick thing which looks like it's made out of old castle all over the wall though it's not real but still cool to look at. And she'd probably be able to match you book wise....I may get my gran on here she's like nearly 80 and has no other friends and is scared of computers but you could be a great new friend for her :L My books are just very bloody messy so is most of my room. Woah ! Way off topic :L

ooh bookshelf. That reminds me I have finished reading Wicked lovely. It was lovely! Predictable but very good and entertaining.I should get into a new book, but what I've realised is I prefer seeing a film first so I can invision the characters as I read. Mabforever, your gran sounds great! Lmao I should tell her that she'd probs be really pleased, we dont always get on though as lovely as she can be she can be the most aggravating woman you can imagine. Off topic? rewrite: I would never have seen Arwen's beautiful floor without MerlinDitto I would not have heard of your cool grandmother without MerlinI would not have realised my gran was cool :L though she did always read me harry potter growing up she does spoil me rotten but having a conversation with her is useless because it's her way or no way and she always demands that I mutter cos she has bad hearing and refuses to get a hearing aid.

*hugs* another person who has read wicked lovely!! One of my favorite faery series ever. You must read the rest of the series as soon as you can. I think it gets much less predictable as the story continues.

Type sailor moon in google press pictures, you'll get the idea.
Without Merlin I would not buy the DVD of any 3 hour fantasy mini-series I happen to come across.

lol imagine Mab's reaction when she sees sailor moon on her forum ;D what's wrong with sailor moon? true the story is written for a younger audience, but its still good. Usagi (serena) is practically a moon goddess in her own right. I LOVED and was OBSESSED with Sailor Moon when I was around 9-10 years old. Sailor Moon stuff were some of the first stories I created in my head when I was playing with my Barbie dolls. Mom never understood it. I never dressed up my dolls, I just moved them around and talked to myself. And I hated it when anyone would interrupt the world I was creating in my head with my dolls.
