Wow, you’re a master of tracking down all of these foreign covers! Really want to hear the Japanese version. White faces and Japanese dubbing is always so freaking weird lol. It never feels weird when I see the reverse: Japanese faces with English dub, because so many Asians are raised in the States.

That French one with Mab's face floating poetically at the back seems gorgeous.

Here's a clearer photo. Sorry I don't have a scanner. It's as if Mab's always watching Merlin or haunting him.

]It would be great to own the DVD just for the cover art alone! I don't know if this version has a Japanese dub. I found a clip on YouTube, and I don't know if it's from the DVD or not, but it has Japanese subtitles with English as the spoken language. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ftBuV3kw7_0ah, totally didn't think about that. Yeah, less popular movies are usually NOT dubbed into foreign languages, especially languages outside of the usual (spanish, french, german) combo. That's actually a subtitled Chinese version you've found since I can't read a word of it. Japanese will ALWAYS include some hiragana/katakana, it will never be 100% kanji. So that's an easy way for a non-speaker to tell the difference between Chinese and Japanese writing. If you look at the Japanese cover, they've named the movie: エクスカリバー, which is actually "Excalibur", not "Merlin". Using that, I actually found the Japanese trailer for the movie! www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1LkIsKQRikJapanese use katakana and "engrish" to spell foreign words in their language like "Ekusukaribaa", "Mabu" aka Mab, "aah-saa-" aka Arthur. エクスカリバー Ekusukaribaa Excalibur 聖剣伝説 Seiken Densetsu "Legend of the Sacred Sword" or "Holy Sword Legend" 予告編 Yokokuhen Trailer 女王マブ Queen Mab Interesting that they're putting the "queen" word before her name. They don't do that with Arthur's name: アーサー王 Usually "honorifics" and "titles" always go after a name, not before it. Might just be because they're "westernizing it". I'm surprised they don't just directly say "Queenu-Mabu" lol. They did that with Queen Beryl from Sailor Moon: クイン・ベリル Kuin Beriru (Queen Beryl) 王 = king 女 = woman 女王 = "female king", aka Queen lol

It's interesting that on the Japanese DVD, even though it's clearly "our" Merlin based on the cast list and images, the English text behind the Japanese reads "Excalibur" (with the sword as the "l") - which is a totally separate film about the same subject matter, just to confuse any Arthurian film nerds! Arthur also gets a more prominent position in the cover art than he does in most versions, too.
Good job on finding all of these!
EDIT: Haha, just saw Arwen posted at almost the same time XD

hmm.... trying to figure out if it was ever dubbed in Japanese or not. Amazon.jp lists the language as "japanese", but I'd be surprised if that means its actually dubbed. You can definitely buy from amazon.jp, but you'll have to use a third-party "middleman" address forwarding service since they 99.9999% of the time will NOT ship outside of Japan. I've used address forwarding services before to buy lots of anime figures directly from amazon.jp or japanese auction websites. I've never been able to order directly from Japan, because even if you speak Japanese, sellers never want to ship outside of Japan. EDIT: www.fromjapan.co.jp/en/ is the middleman service I've used tons of times in the past for anime figures. I'm tempted to order the Japanese Merlin DVD, but I only really, really want it if its dubbed. And I strongly doubt it is since the trailer on youtube isn't dubbed, despite what amazon.jp lists. ja.wikipedia エクスカリバー_聖剣伝説ja.wikipedia.org 吹き替えエクスカリバー 1998 吹き替え is not giving me any concrete evidence that it was dubbed. amazon.co.jp エクスカリバー~聖剣伝説~【日本語吹替版】-VHS-サム・ニールamazon.co.jp エクスカリバー~聖剣伝説~-DVD-サム・ニールSequel: amazon.co.jp エクスカリバーII-伝説の聖杯-DVD-サム・ニールUNCUT deluxe version: amazon.co.jp エクスカリバー-聖剣伝説-ノーカット完全版-DVD-サム・ニールP.S. the japanese have a release of the old "excalibur" movie too: wikipedia.org エクスカリバー_(1981年の映画)You just have to use the year date to keep them seperate. I'm sure they changed the name just because more Japanese people might recognize it. Countries do that all the time in the hopes of increasing sales.
