Again the studio versions are not true to the actual capability of Ms. Jansen- but hearing those songs live - as I did - or in these beautiful Wembley and Tampere recordings it makes every inch of me longing for more.
In some songs she goes from grunting over full belly voice up to classical soprano - just so fucking great! Hope they'll be on tour soon again after her maternity break.

I saw the gig at Wembley, and where I was standing you could barely hear the orchestra backing tapes, but Floor came through crystal clear (I assume something to do with the acoustics of the venue and/or the location of the speakers). She was indeed very impressive live. I'm still not very into her classical voice, but it was great to see "Stargazers" back in the set nevertheless.
Regarding their plans for the future, the whole band is taking this year off (apparently Tuomas is lacking in musical inspiration or some such), but they have just announced that they are planning to release a 2CD "Best Of" compilation next year, called "Decades". They'll be doing a world tour for it, kicking off in the US in March/April 2018, and they've confirmed they will be playing some new versions of old songs that we haven't heard for a while. Based on previous interviews, I'm wondering if we're going to see a song or two from "Angels Fall First" after all these years... But yeah, it sounds like this tour is going to concentrate on songs from across their whole career, maybe with a few lesser known numbers, rather than focussing on just one album, which I'm pretty happy about. I'm fonder of the pre-Once material, and their setlists tend to be dominated by their newer work. Will be interesting to see which "oldies" they play.
I suspect we'll be waiting until 2020 for a new NW album though - by the time the tour finishes, Tuomas writes the songs, and they demo and then record them. They're going ever longer between releases these days!

Yeah I guess I am quite happy with more life recordings and new versions of old songs anyways. I loved Floors take on Stargazers or the Ghost Love Score. Even Nemo and Romanticide. She makes even the Imaginerium Songs enjoyable.. So yeah as long as they continue giving us some music... For the Wembley recording ( I bought the DVD) I found the the acoustics actually quite bad. Tampere seemed much better and even Wacken before... but vocaly there's no complain by me.

Yeah, I don't have the DVD myself but I read a few reviews saying the sound on the Wembley gig was a bit off - I'm not sure if it was the acoustics of the venue (as I said, when you're actually there it doesn't sound like the DVD because some bits can sound louder than others depending on your position, and obviously the crowd is much louder), or if it was the way they chose to mix the sound for the show. I actually prefer some of the Imaginaerum songs with Anette - or at least, on the studio versions. I wasn't a big fan of her on DPP (and I think Floor sounds better on these songs, with the exception of Amaranth and the ending of Sahara) but I really think Anette nailed the songs on Imaginaerum. Plus it's just a much better album overall IMO . But Floor's voice has the power that Anette's lacked, and she's much more consistent live. Hopefully their next album will take more advantage of that mighty voice of hers. I'm really hoping we hear "Beauty of the Beast" in this next tour... or maybe "End of All Hope", I reckon Floor would really nail that one.

Oh yeah Beauty and Beast...
By the way I envy you for being in the Wembley venue - ;-) Mine was 'just' Leipzig but also great.
But they really should create songs that are more chanllenging for Floors voice, that are exploring her full extend.
But I'd also love to hear her in songs like "Pharao sails to Orion" or "Phantom of the Opera" or "Deep Silent Complete"... might be nice.

Wow this sounds so good! I am very happy for you both getting to see Nightwish. Sounds like they play my favourite songs live!

Yeah they are a treat as live act... a few days ago I read: ... So Toumas is working, but apparently not yet with Floor.
PS my phone seems to have trouble with the link. I guess I have to check on pc later.

They are a very solid band live- Floor in particular is a consummate professional, I don't think I've ever heard her sound bad on a live video. Even at her very worst she's still adequate, and when she's at her best, chills may be had. I think they're maybe missing a bit of the stage presence to make them a GREAT live band - for me, bands like Sabaton and Skindred, where there's more audience interaction put them slightly above Nightwish on a live level, even though I prefer Nightwish's albums. (Mostly. Carolus Rex and The Art of War are amazing albums). I wish they'd play more of the old stuff live, I'm hoping this Decades tour will be my time!
I heard about the AURI project (for those who can't access the link for whatever reason, it's Tuomas and Troy from Nightwish, and Finnish singer Johanna Kurkela, who is also Tuomas's wife). There's not a lot of detail about the music, but given Troy's presence, and the fact that there's no mention of orchestra, I'm thinking it's probably going to be something more folky and atmospheric, less bombastic and heavy than Nightwish. Maybe hearkening back to some of the original ideas for Nightwish's sound, when they were intended to be an acoustic folk band? Should be interesting, but I'm assuming that since Tuomas and Troy will be busy with the NW tour soon after the album comes out that we won't see much (or any) in the way of live shows?
