Well, she picks up those "seven year stands" of hers every now and then before the film begins, lol I don't know, its entirely possible that when she gets stressed or bored, she goes and finds some pretty mortal to play with in her spare time for a little while. Actually, I think this is probably the most plausible scenario XD As far as Mab going to see Uther... well, he's a bit of an unknown quantity, but its not entirely unlikely: 1) When we encounter Uther later on, we learn pretty quickly that he's not as fanatical as his father presumably was, just from the fact that he allows Merlin to be his advisor. Also, that he's pretty weak, and easily manipulated, and not the most mentally stable king of all time. If Mab's been watching him in her crystals, she might have picked up on this, and figured she could manipulate a more favourable situation for her. 2) He's the underdog, in a sense. Vortigern holds the country's throne, and will use "underhanded", if you like, tactics to win (fighting in winter, blackmailing some nobles to remain loyal). He might be a little less sure of himself and more open to accepting help than V. Bear in mind, at this stage, she doesn't seem to care huge amounts who wins, she still wants Merlin back, and to be able to put him on the throne- she might not care if uther holds the throne for a while, as she's just planning to dethrone him anyway, this bargain is for her to get Merlin, and probably some favour from the current ruler in the meantime.

"seven year stands" Like Thomas the Rhymer and Tam Lin. Our Mab does that? *puppy eyes* It really says so in the books? ;D oh I can’t tell you how much I love this! *must stop staring at my computer, must stop puppy eyes, I can’t* when she gets stressed or bored, she goes and finds some pretty mortal to play with in her spare time for a little while That would definitely be the most fun scenario! You managed to make Uther sound like a reasonable option. *standing here in total awe*

Indeed it does say that Book One: The Old Magic Chapter 5: The Courts of Fairy From Frik's POV ...And he did have to admit that he was interested in getting to know this Merlin. Of course, Her Highness was always bringing home these seven-year-stands, like that Thomas Whatsisname who'd wanted to be a poet. Remarkably bad verse, if Frik remembered, and eventually Mab had gotten so tired of him that she'd put a curse on him to tell nothing but the truth. That had sent the fellow packing! But that sort of interlude wasn't like getting to know a mortal. Merlin would be - was- different. ..That's all the mention made of any of Mab's lovers in the books, aside from the sentence that she and Idath had once been lovers.

Fantastic! Thank you so much for posting these lines of the book. Mab got tired of him. Haha great fun!
That's all the mention made of any of Mab's lovers in the books, aside from the sentence that she and Idath had once been lovers. Mab's love life has such potential. What's with these writers of the book and film paying almost no attention to it?

but mab is able to waltz right into his castle and incampment. if she tried that with uther or another christian, they'd probably attack without question.Mab is awesome and should be able to waltz in anywhere yes he was definitely christian, but a more relaxed guy. i wonder if mordred had come in peace, arthur might have let him stay. I assume so. she plays pool and poker with the guys downtown. *grin*and watches episodes of Charmed the rest of the time. I suppose she's enjoying her long life with recreational activities? but what could those be, besides sex?I had an odd image of Mab playing pool....anyhoo yeah I'd happily send my dvd boxsets to her and get trollied beyond belief ? What? It's what I do. You're right, though, it might have necessitated somewhat more subtlety than riding in through the front gates and announcing herself as Queen of the Old Ways.I know it was impressive but Im a little confused as to why she didn't just appear like she often did. :S she's much closer to him, and much more involved in his upbringing and lessons, from what we see. It might be that, refusing to leave anything to chance,Why she couldn't have done that with Merlin in the first place I dont know I blame Ambrosia How in the world would she have pulled that off? Waltzed in. Unless she thought she could influence him into some love or mercy for paganism. Dunno why she didn't just seduce him or get someone to do it for her. Not like with Igraine but make him fall madly in love with a pagan. Perhaps she does a lot of sneaking around and setting things up too?? or maybe sends Frik to do all that.Frik I guess :L Spare time: more scheming, using crystals to build up her strength, possible. watching many other characters have sex cause that is essential to her plans.Yeah lol we did discuss that, it would make lovely mother/son time for Mab/Merlin Take a long bath, let her hair dry for hours whilst lying on a rock,Again possible though makes her sound like a mermaid. watching small pixies tip toe around her, order them to braid her hair and do her make-up.Awww now that's a beautiful image. Hah in the end it all comes down to Mab’s sex-life!Im saying nothing :L she goes and finds some pretty mortal to play with in her spare time for a little while. Actually, I think this is probably the most plausible scenario XDAgreed as I take it Idath is out of the question. he allows Merlin to be his advisor.Like Nimue Uther is fine with magick when it's workin for him and not against. You managed to make Uther sound like a reasonable option. *standing here in total awe* *is also in awe* ...And he did have to admit that he was interested in getting to know this Merlin. Of course, Her Highness was always bringing home these seven-year-stands, like that Thomas Whatsisname who'd wanted to be a poet. But that sort of interlude wasn't like getting to know a mortal. Merlin would be - was- different. ..Oooh I'd so have love to see this and I wish I could read the book, I wonder how Mab got tired of him and what he said whilst under the truth curse. I love how she thinks of Merlin as different. That's all the mention made of any of Mab's lovers in the books, aside from the sentence that she and Idath had once been lovers.Again interesting would have been great for a book all on Mab and again Tv series where it could show you flash backs of her life Fantastic! Thank you so much for posting these lines of the book.Agreed I'd love to read the book, why the hell cant they sell Merlin books and film over here?! Urrrgh! I am so annoyed. Mab's love life has such potential. What's with these writers of the book and film paying almost no attention to it?Yeah it certainly does. I have no idea I mean she's drop dead gorgeous and a bit of a nympho if you like, I dunno. And I'd love to see her paired up once or twice and fanfics state Im not the only one

I had an odd image of Mab playing pool....anyhoo yeah I'd happily send my dvd boxsets to her and get trollied beyond belief ? What? It's what I do.I think of Prue from Charmed and her pool-playing episode. Dunno why she didn't just seduce him or get someone to do it for her. Not like with Igraine but make him fall madly in love with a pagan. If that happened, would the christians continue to support him? Perhaps they would until a better candidate came along. But it would create a lot of friction and cause accusations of not being a christian for marrying a pagan. Edit: *oops I said marriage didn't I. He didn't marry Igraine in the movie, (although I think in the original myths he did?), and yet Arthur, the child born of out wedlock, was still able to become king? So that really means Mordred could become king unless they oppose it for incest. he allows Merlin to be his advisor. Like Nimue Uther is fine with magick when it's workin for him and not against.I think they take what they can get because they feel like they're at a disadvantage. Plus, the christians are very superstitious. While they may believe magic is evil, they also believe it actually works apparently. Romans invade 43AD *at this point all Romans are still pagan* I remember a funny quote from the book about this about how Mab was pissed because the people stuck Roman gods inside her temples alongside the original celtic gods lol. But it wasn't until christianity that she was really upset because the christians actually destroyed the pagan temples, not just crammed different gods into them. So right now its Roman Pagan vs Celtic Pagan, but they got on fairly well for the most part. 313AD - Edict of Milan legalizes Christianity in the Empire and combines christian and pagan practices together, this sets the foundation of the catholic church Early Middle Ages - The characters that Merlin is based on lived during this period. During this period, the Fall of Rome finishes. The Roman army leaves Britain and Anglo-Saxons invade around 400AD and establish Pagan kingdoms. Saxons were not christianized until much later. So now its Romano-British-Christian vs Pagan Saxon and the leftover Celtic Pagans are kinda caught up in the middle of it all. Not all celtic pagans decided to become Roman Christian, but the Roman Christians were the ones with the power at the time. I can see why Mab decided to bring in the Pagan Saxons, even if they believed in different pagan gods, she was running out of fuel. England was in the hands of Roman Christian. The very beginning of the Early Middle Ages when the saxons are invading is the timeframe of Arthur, Merlin, Mab. Arthur=romano-british-christian & merlin=pagan welsh so really the natives of britain (pagan and christian) were fighting together to ward off the invading saxons. The saxons may have been pagan, but they were still invaders so native pagans didn't like them too much. Interesting thing I read: "The Anglo-Saxon conversion was one of the most difficult for Christian missionaries because paganism was so entrenched into the culture. The Saxons were one of the last Barbarian groups to the converted by Christian missionaries and it was mainly under the threat of death by Charlemagne and with great some inclusions of pagan culture and concessions on the part of the Christian missionaries." That's all the mention made of any of Mab's lovers in the books, aside from the sentence that she and Idath had once been lovers. Again interesting would have been great for a book all on Mab and again Tv series where it could show you flash backs of her lifeAnd history! I Love it when they twine fantasy with real history because it makes it seem more believable. Kinda like "This could've happened, but maybe no one reported it, that's all"

I had an odd image of Mab playing pool....anyhoo yeah I'd happily send my dvd boxsets to her and get trollied beyond belief ? What? It's what I do. I think of Prue from Charmed and her pool-playing episode.Ahh you mean Just Harried where Piper marry's Leo and Prue get's an astral twin who is all her inner wants. No Im not as much of a Charmedologist as I used to be but I can still give you the odd episode and summary :L Dunno why she didn't just seduce him or get someone to do it for her. Not like with Igraine but make him fall madly in love with a pagan. If that happened, would the christians continue to support him? Perhaps they would until a better candidate came along. But it would create a lot of friction and cause accusations of not being a christian for marrying a pagan.Huh yeah fair point I never considered everyone stop following Uther, but I guess that would mainly leave it to a toss up between Vortigern and Uther? Or if some newbie appeared. But if it that did happen I'd certainly find Uther more likeable. Christ the Uther in Merlin the tv series marrys a troll :L Edit: *oops I said marriage didn't I. He didn't marry Igraine in the movie, (although I think in the original myths he did?), and yet Arthur, the child born of out wedlock, was still able to become king? So that really means Mordred could become king unless they oppose it for incest.Oh yeah, well I've read that Igraine and Uther did marry. But yeah I dunno. Mordred is team Mab so obviously Im inclined to side with him over Arthur but I think he'd have made a suckish King if Im honest. he allows Merlin to be his advisor. Like Nimue Uther is fine with magick when it's workin for him and not against. I think they take what they can get because they feel like they're at a disadvantage. Plus, the christians are very superstitious. While they may believe magic is evil, they also believe it actually works apparently.Yeah I always thought it was mostly jealous with em :L I mean Mab could take both Nimue and Uther in a heartbeat. It's actually really ridiculous the way they think of magick. Romans invade 43AD *at this point all Romans are still pagan* I remember a funny quote from the book about this about how Mab was pissed because the people stuck Roman gods inside her temples alongside the original celtic gods lol.Lmao typical Mab. Well they were her temples. But it wasn't until christianity that she was really upset because the christians actually destroyed the pagan temples, not just crammed different gods into them.Awww poor Mab no wonder she was upset. That's just lame what they did. So right now its Roman Pagan vs Celtic Pagan, but they got on fairly well for the most part.Ok Celtic Pagan good, Roman Pagan okayish, Christian BAD! 313AD - Edict of Milan legalizes Christianity in the Empire and combines christian and pagan practices together, this sets the foundation of the catholic churchAnd here's where you start loosing me, dont try to explain we shall both get headaches. Early Middle Ages - The characters that Merlin is based on lived during this period. I can see why Mab decided to bring in the Pagan Saxons, even if they believed in different pagan gods, she was running out of fuel. England was in the hands of Roman Christian.I only understand the last half of that at a push. Im just gonna quietly step aside and shout Queen Mab! Im good at discussing her looks, her dresses, her lovers, her past times, the deeper you go into the history of it the more confused I get though I have a rough idea of what your saying :L I dropped history at school to take modern studies and Im not even at school any more lol The very beginning of the Early Middle Ages when the saxons are invading is the timeframe of Arthur, Merlin, Mab. Arthur=romano-british-christian & merlin=pagan welsh so really the natives of britain (pagan and christian) were fighting together to ward off the invading saxons. The saxons may have been pagan, but they were still invaders so native pagans didn't like them too much.Okay........ Interesting thing I read: "The Anglo-Saxon conversion was one of the most difficult for Christian missionaries because paganism was so entrenched into the culture. The Saxons were one of the last Barbarian groups to the converted by Christian missionaries and it was mainly under the threat of death by Charlemagne and with great some inclusions of pagan culture and concessions on the part of the Christian missionaries."So in short [dumbing it down] again Christian's bad Pagan's good :L you have got to love my intellectual response to these types of posts :L That's all the mention made of any of Mab's lovers in the books, aside from the sentence that she and Idath had once been lovers. Again interesting would have been great for a book all on Mab and again Tv series where it could show you flash backs of her life
And history!*groans* yeah sure ;D I Love it when they twine fantasy with real history because it makes it seem more believable. It makes little difference to me :L Kinda like "This could've happened, but maybe no one reported it, that's all"As far as Im concerned it did and it's conspiracy to hide us from it and stuff, I perhaps have an over active imagination but I cant believe people can exist be born create what's around us out of nothing and for no purpose no grand design. It seems disappointing.

watching many other characters have sex cause that is essential to her plans. Yeah lol we did discuss that, it would make lovely mother/son time for Mab/Merlin yes it would. lol we can't discuss this enough. Merlin enters the crystal room carrying a big box of popcorn. "Have I missed anything?" "No, dear" Mab replies, gesturing him to come sit next to her and watch the home cinema crystal. "You're right on time. Uther just sent Morgan out of the room." "Good then." They have great fun catching up while watching the happenings in the mortal world on screen. Still laughing they say goodbye to each other. Both not really wanting this beautiful son-mother moment to end. "Fancy standing on rocks shouting to each other once Arthur is born?" "Yes, I would love that." "Great! see you then." Arwen, what a great historical overview!! 313AD - Edict of Milan legalizes Christianity in the Empire and combines christian and pagan practices together, this sets the foundation of the catholic church And here's where you start loosing me, dont try to explain we shall both get headaches. hihi Is this when Celtic festivities are given a christian meaning? He didn't marry Igraine in the movie, (although I think in the original myths he did?), I believe so. and yet Arthur, the child born of out wedlock, was still able to become king? yes that was strange. good luck for Arthur that sir Boris was still around to verify his parentage. + he could prove it by doing a cool trick with a magic sword So that really means Mordred could become king unless they oppose it for incest. Mordred for king I so don't want to think about that. On the bright side, Mab would be in control of course. I'm pro long Merlin series! ;D Another christian-pagan thing that quite bothers me- I'm probably overthinking this but whatever- the Lady of the Lake: All things change sister, it's sad but heaven, hell, and the world move on. Odd choice of words for a pagan deity. Heaven and Hell. Not exactly her field I thought. The Lady knows Idath and the rebirth stuff doesn't she? Is she so eager to 'flow along' with the New Ways?

Even though they used the words heaven and hell, I don't think the concept is foreign in pagan religions. For example, I remember Greeks have the Elysian Fields-the final resting place of the heroic and virtuous and then they have Tartarus which is a gloomy underworld full of suffering. Souls were judged after death and those who received punishment were sent to Tartarus. So many many different religions have a "heaven" and "hell". They really should have used the specific pagan terms in the movie though like "summerland", but maybe they didn't because most of the audience is ignorant and they're not going to understand new terminology unless you explain it to them.
Oh I love it, someone should write a fanfic called "pass the popcorn mab"

Re: Arthur/Mordred becoming King.
Arthur (at least in the context of Merlin) was not a legitimate son, nor did Uther recognise him as his son, officially. As someone has already said, luckily Bors could confirm that Uther DID have a son, and Arthur backed up his claim by bringing out Excalibur. The chaos arising after Uther's death only came about because he didn't have a legitimate heir, if he had, then the crown would have passed to them automatically.
Similarly with Mordred, I imagine had he come to Camelot in "peace", Arthur would have recognised him as his son, officially ( though I imagine he would have covered up the incest fact), but I would have thought that Mordred would only have become king if Arthur failed to produce any legitimate heirs. As Merlin notes (this might not have been in the film) they're Christian, and things like legitimacy matter to them.
That's a thought, actually, how did noone comment on the incestiness of Mordred's birth. Arthur says to Mordred, in front of his whole court "Morgan le Fey is your mother?", which Mordred then confirms. Mordred is known to be Arthur's son. The son of Uther and Igraine. Who was also Morgan's mother. I know that Morgan was forgotten about to a certain extent, but surely someone would remember this... or Mordred would have told people, great way to turn some of the loyal knights against Arthur?? Admittedly, this is quite off topic..

Admittedly, this is quite off topic.. ooo good points. Yeah I do remember Merlin saying something about legitimacy matters, but where was it? *knocks head against desk* Perhaps, at the time, since everything was newly christianized, although I think Pagans sometimes had laws about incest too, they weren't really surprised by the incest. I remember reading that Guinevere's family in the books had just become christian. So incest itself may not have been quite as highly taboo as it becomes in the later centuries? But I'm not sure, don't know enough about the time period to back this theory up. What I do know is that ancient Romans didn't like incest normally, but if you slept with your slave and that slave had children, it was perfectly normal to sleep with those children too because they were "slaves" and not people. But if you slept with any of your freeborn relatives that was incest and deeply frowned upon. But I don't think they'd lynch you, you just lose your legitimacy thing unless there was no one else. Other than that, the filmmakers were lazy and didn't have time to explore that side of the story and how it contributed to Arthur's downfall. but I cant believe people can exist be born create what's around us out of nothing and for no purpose no grand design. You know the fact that Merlin wielded Excalibur against Vortigern and the time he pulled out a sword to face the gryffins tells me Merlin was indeed taught swordplay at some point. Was it in the Land of Magic or later on? I mean I think most probably it would have had to been in Mab's realm because Vortigern was the next civilised place he went and Vortigern isn't going to teach him swordplay. But often times Merlin didn't have a sword with him in the first place, just his big stick. *raises eyebrow*

That's one of many examples of how the different religions were combined. you have other examples? this reminded me of monty python and the holy grail - "strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government!" My favourite part of the whole film! So many many different religions have a "heaven" and "hell". They really should have used the specific pagan terms in the movie though like "summerland", but maybe they didn't because most of the audience is ignorant and they're not going to understand new terminology unless you explain it to them. I agree, they should have used the pagan terminology! Surely summerland is understandable enough. someone should write a fanfic called "pass the popcorn mab" YES ;D Re: Arthur/Mordred becoming King.Similarly with Mordred, I imagine had he come to Camelot in "peace", Arthur would have recognised him as his son, officially ( though I imagine he would have covered up the incest fact) even Mordred bullying/humiliating his father didn’t bring up the incest fact. He said that Morgan was his mother but didn’t point out the disgrace of his parents' union. This news would have made Arthur's men lose even more confidence in his fitness to be king. but I would have thought that Mordred would only have become king if Arthur failed to produce any legitimate heirs. Yup. His poor bastard son. That's a thought, actually, how did noone comment on the incestiness of Mordred's birth. I know that Morgan was forgotten about to a certain extent, but surely someone would remember this… That should definitely have been the case! No one dared comment? No that can't be it. arg I don't know. I blame it on their lack of personality. or Mordred would have told people, great way to turn some of the loyal knights against Arthur?? Oh now I see I previously wrote what you already said here So yes, agreed that would be a great way. Could it be that Mordred felt some shame? hm, unlikely. Reasons for him not to mention the incest issue? - They might have thought Mordred himself could be deformed or insane by being born out of incest. - Or... In the Middle Ages, can’t remember exactly where or when, it was believed that children born out of incest possessed magic qualities. Mordred wouldn’t want the Christians to think he had anything to do with the Old Ways, yet. Because then less lords would have been keen on following him in his grand battle against Arthur. New thought, Merlin could have exposed him as a pagan. My theories are running wild. I feel I am starting to lose all contact with the film I just cant see that we are all born in our race we create wonderous things from virtually nothing only to die yet with no point other than improving the race for future humans yes that's what we should try to do. We don’t really seem to succeed. I sometimes feel that we are too much enjoying our own lives instead of thinking about those generations coming after us. *damn my negative thinking* something is before and after death, Im not sure what I believe in any more but Im damn sure it's something. Wish I had your confidence in this… So incest itself may not have been quite as highly taboo as it becomes in the later centuries? As far as I know incest is more or less always/everywhere taboo. Lévi-Strauss, among others, has argued that the prohibition of incest is probably natural not cultural. That’s just what I’ve heard, I am no expert. What I do know is that ancient Romans didn't like incest normally, but if you slept with your slave and that slave had children, it was perfectly normal to sleep with those children too because they were "slaves" and not people. But if you slept with any of your freeborn relatives that was incest and deeply frowned upon.Wow these Romans are crazyOther than that, the filmmakers were lazy and didn't have time to explore that side of the story and how it contributed to Arthur's downfall lol very true Merlin wielded Excalibur against Vortigern and the time he pulled out a sword to face the gryffins tells me Merlin was indeed taught swordplay at some point. Was it in the Land of Magic or later on? In the Land of Magic. But I don’t see Frik teaching him this. I can see Mab wielding a sword but not teaching Merlin. At least not without him being terribly wounded. Maybe he learned to do it on his own, with some magic guidance. Or the Lady 'granted him the knowledge of sword fighting' at the same time she gave him Excalibur. But often times Merlin didn't have a sword with him in the first place, just his big stick. *raises eyebrow* yeah, he loves his stick! It fits the wizard image better. And he is not too keen on violence.

So you're saying there must be some kind of afterlife out there?Afterlife, reincarnation, something more than what we know. Im not sure. kind of like what is the meaning of life. You know the fact that Merlin wielded Excalibur against Vortigern and the time he pulled out a sword to face the gryffins tells me Merlin was indeed taught swordplay at some point. Was it in the Land of Magic or later on? I mean I think most probably it would have had to been in Mab's realm because Vortigern was the next civilised place he went and Vortigern isn't going to teach him swordplay.Mmmmmm, well I was originally gonna say Excalibur in something I used to watch pretty much fought it's own battles like the user would hold it, but it would take control. But he uses a different sword at some point which screws that theory. Um no I dont see Mab teaching him perhaps again Frik? I reckon he knew a few things he was in that battle at the end. Just a really big coward before hand. Way to get courage at the worst time Frik The only other thing I can think of is like he worked it out himself. But often times Merlin didn't have a sword with him in the first place, just his big stick. *raises eyebrow*Maybe the stick was practice and could transform to a sword? someone should write a fanfic called "pass the popcorn mab"or film yes that's what we should try to do. We don’t really seem to succeed. I sometimes feel that we are too much enjoying our own lives instead of thinking about those generations coming after us. *damn my negative thinking*Ack screw em :L they should be happy with what they have. Im all heart. Wish I had your confidence in this…Cosmic, I always look into the sky (even got my bed right at the window) and day dream, I mean I guess I have a lot of time on my hands but, theres a past before us a future after, the present does not exist as every second is becoming the past or for a milasecond the future. And if that happens with time it must happen with life and death. Why would humans exist just to create and then dying as I say I might be looking for the meaning of life. My mind is twisted I guess, I mean sometimes I genuinely think life is a story book that someone is writing. Or that the world has already happened and now we're repeating it the planet shall be destroyed then heal itself and we'll begin the cycle all over again. Unexplained things happen why do they happen why cant they be explained, or are they just they're to symbolise a reminder that our own lives arent actually explained. The body can die but what about you yourself that part surely can not age till death, only the physical form can. Sort of ended up ranting :L again as I say I guess my head has a lot of free time. I like thinking about the weird stuff. Other than that, the filmmakers were lazy and didn't have time to explore that side of the story and how it contributed to Arthur's downfallWhat I will say here and Im not even sure where this part of the convo is from :L is that the story was supposed to be utterly about Merlin and not really focus on Arthur. I may be wrong here on the thread of things. In the Land of Magic. But I don’t see Frik teaching him this.Well as I said above I do I may be wrong Im just assuming. I can see Mab wielding a sword but not teaching MerlinActually it would have been great for Mab to show sword skills, the only time I could think it appropriate for this would perhaps be with Vortigern? Not actually attacking each other so much as testing. Maybe he learned to do it on his own, with some magic guidance. Or the Lady 'granted him the knowledge of sword fighting' at the same time she gave him Excalibur.Again very possible

So you're saying there must be some kind of afterlife out there? Afterlife, reincarnation, something more than what we know. Im not sure. kind of like what is the meaning of life.Purpose of Life? here's what I think: Genesis 1:26-30 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground." Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground--everything that has the breath of life in it--I give every green plant for food."
In other words, God said go live your lives and be happy. He has some rules you need to live by because otherwise you're killing, cheating, stealing, hating, destroying. But if you live by the rules, then you're free to do absolutely anything that makes you happy and gives you a feeling of accomplishment. Also, a book called "The Purpose Driven Life" I really enjoyed. I didn't agree with everything the author said (but who would we're all different) , but I like most his first point: You were created for God's pleasurePleasure means happiness. God is a creator god so he enjoys creating beautiful things and since we're created in god's image we create things too and understand that feeling of joy in the act of creation (for example creating Mab fanfics .) Summary of what I believe: 1. we are caretakers of the earth because we hold dominion over the animals and plants, we're supposed to take good care of what god has given us. 2. Go forth and multiply "lol dont think I need to explain this, but he isn't suggesting orgies" 3. do whatever makes you feel happiness, accomplishment, purpose, we were gifted with intelligence and free will. 4. Don't over do it and go crazy ok? have some self-restraint Everything in existence was created for god's pleasure because he wanted it to exist (excluding sin). He takes pleasure in its existence and wants his creatures to have freedom, intelligence, and happiness. I think as whole species #2 we've done well. #3 could be better. And #1 and #4 we've failed miserably at. **About Death, it was never in the original plan for human beings. Romans 5:12 Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned—Adam and Eve were immortal until they screwed up. And God specifically told they would die if they ate from that tree so they were fully aware, they're actions weren't born of ignorance. But they did it anyway. How many times have your parents told you not to do something, but you did it anyway? The body can die but what about you yourself that part surely can not age till death, only the physical form can. You're buying into the oldest lie in the book. Genesis 3:2-4 The woman said to the serpent, "We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, 'You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.' "You will not die," the serpent said to the woman."Majority of people believe in this "immortal soul" business or reincarnation. God said "You will die." and the serpent said "you will not die." who do you think was speaking truth? You die. End of story. Death is death. We are mortal creatures we do not have an immortal soul. I could offer endless quotes from the bible where it states you're definitely dead, there's no disembodied soul floating around anywhere, but then this discussion would never end lol. The serpent keeps repeating the same lie over and over again in different ways "Don't worry. You won't die." because he wants us to do things that will hurt us. "Don't worry, go ahead and touch that frying pan. It won't burn you." I have a bad memory as a little girl, my mom told me not to touch a hot pan, but I decided to disobey because I impatiently wanted the cookies so I got badly burnt. So its my shining example: Arwen's cookie stupidity = Eve's apple stupidity as I say I guess my head has a lot of free time. I like thinking about the weird stuff.I love thinking about stuff like that. Its not weird. The future, the past, all that complicated stuff, you never run out of stuff to think about and what it all means. Mmmmmm, well I was originally gonna say Excalibur in something I used to watch pretty much fought it's own battles like the user would hold it, but it would take control. But he uses a different sword at some point which screws that theory. Um no I dont see Mab teaching him perhaps again Frik? I reckon he knew a few things he was in that battle at the end. Just a really big coward before hand. Way to get courage at the worst time Frik The only other thing I can think of is like he worked it out himself.*shudders at the idea of someone working out swords for themselves* He'd be dead in seconds. I think just because Frik is a coward doesn't mean he doesn't know about swords. Why do we think Frik is a coward anyway? Because he trembles when Mab enters the room? Well a lot of people would do that. I can see Mab wielding a sword but not teaching Merlin Actually it would have been great for Mab to show sword skills, the only time I could think it appropriate for this would perhaps be with Vortigern? Not actually attacking each other so much as testing.I would love it too, but would it be appropriate for the time period? I don't know if men would like it. They would think she was trying to act like a man. If she wants to be a man, she could just change her appearance. I could see how Excalibur might be the "auto-pilot" sword where you dont have to do anything just let Excalibur be in control. Or... I feel I am starting to lose all contact with the filmNever heard that one before, and if you were suspected of magic during the later middle ages, the catholic church would burn you at the stake. I think people back then and even some today, smoke pot before they read the bible that way they can see "kill people!" written on every page instead of what it actually says. I wouldn't blame a person who said "I study the bible intensely, but no way am I joining a crazy radical group." That's a lot better than "Oh I go to church, but I've never really read the bible." @_@ "Then how do you know if what your pastor is telling you is true or not?" From what I remember, Mordred used Mab's persuasion magic to convince the knights to follow him. He never hid the fact that he was pagan, he just tried to discredit Arthur. And if you want these men to follow you, you need to convince them that paganism is the better way and that christians can't be trusted. very long post lol, I think I responded to most everything. Edit: Is this when Celtic festivities are given a christian meaning? yes exactly! That's one of many examples of how the different religions were combined. you have other examples? Just google "catholic church pagan practices" and you can have your fill of catholics defending themselves and others accusing them. As for me, its historical fact that when christian missionaries went places to convert people that had to allow people to continue some heathen practices because otherwise they proved really difficult to convert. Human nature loves tradition. If a certain religion has been in your family for generations, passed down from parent to child over and over again, its always difficult to give it up. You're asking people to give up their way of life. One thing I get a kick out of is how catholics pray to Mary because she's the "Mother of God". They've turned the pagan mother goddess into Mary. Ma--->ry Ma<----b Mab oh Mab! hahaha! yay! much better mother goddess There's only ONE mediator between God and men, and it isn't Mary (I Tim. 2:5). The last time we hear from Mary in the Bible she is praying WITH the disciples, not being prayed to BY the disciples (Acts 1:14). The Bible never exalts Mary above anyone else. Neither should we.www.biblebelievers.com/jmelton/Catholic.htmlAnd the biggest problem is that the pope thinks he's god on earth basically. There used to be a fanfic with a scene where Mab kills the pope, but it was deleted before I joined mrap. I would pay money to read it lol.
